Mar: 8: Miscellaneous Stuff

Since going to the state park Tuesday, we've kinda hung out at camp. Have you seen the price of diesel - Holy Cow!!! We have been swimming about every day (one day encluded water aerobics), morning aerobics, had another pot luck dinner (every Thursday) and yesterday was the big good-bye party at noon. A couple wasn't going to be able to attend the party so they gave us their tickets. Quarter of a chicken (smoked and not done) along with beans and rice. All the beer, wine and pop you could drink - all free. Bingo again last night and I won again. More profit this time but still bought popcorn and ice cream bars.

This afternoon we went to a local high school production. La Joya Independent School District
is a magnet school for fine arts so the production was awesome. It's a very large high school that appears to be reasonably new. They have a guard at a gate that you have to drive thru to access the school. The theater seats 1400 and it was sold out. Most of the productions were and there were 6 of them. The most gringos I have seen in one place since we got here (and lots of grey hair). They had short dance segments from Mayan times, to Ecuador, to the flamenco dance. In between segments a Mariachi band came out and played and sang. I could have listened to them all afternoon. After the intermission, they did the 40's including a zoot suit routine and moved to a Panama dance and then current Mexican music and dance. The older gentleman next to me ask if I remembered zoot suits. HELLO - do I look like I remember zoot suits. I told him I knew what they were and really loved the suits and the music, but not just no, but Hell No, I don't remember zoot suits (didn't say all of that to him but felt like it).

Larry hadn't had his prime rib for a couple of weeks so we then headed out to Texas Road House and hurried back here for an evening program. Did a short walk and now we're settled down to watch the North Carolina/Duke game on ESPN and the lady Tennessee Vols on another channel.

Not much on the agenda for tomorrow. Larry is geared up for the Big Party on South Padre Island next week. This was just Texas schools week and there was only a 5 hour wait to get across the causeway onto the island. Can't wait for next week when the whole nation will be here. We've also found out that on the 21st is Winter Texas Appreciation Day in Progresso, Mexico. Probably go then. More Mariachi bands.
