Mar 21: Rancho El Charco

Yesterday, we went to Rancho El Charco. This is a picture of the entrance. A nice little ranch set right on the edge of a housing edition. The lake is man made. The restaurant, called Boco Paila, also has a live band and dancing. They also have covered wagon rides thru the ranch - which is undeveloped except for a couple of places to stop and visit, hold receptions and/or weddings.

The
wagons were pulled by Belgian mules. A cross of a Jack and a Belgian mare. They seemed a little bulkier than your normal mule. The only place we actually stopped at was a water falls area. There was a palm leaf covered grotto with a shrine in it. The photo of the grotto is from the water falls side. The rope bridge going over to the water falls was quite a thrill ride for me. Larry didn't seem to have much trouble, but it was just him by himself. I went across with another lady and we really rocked it. I really thought I was going to fall in once. When we came back, we crossed one at a time and it was still pretty scary.

We cam
e back and ordered dinner. We both had the buffalo burger with jalapeno corn meal toast. Larry had the sweet potatoe fries and I had the normal ones (he preferred mine). One guy ordered frog legs and quail for $19.

As you can see, there was plush
seating outside where the band was and the dancing took place. Nothing shy about these seniors. The music starts and they hit the floor.

Here's a picture of Larry and his suffelboard partner, Margarete.
She's 81 and having a great time. She has a park model here in the park.

Today, we'll be staying home. Larry (and the neighbor lady that went with us) are both sick. So far she's just not feeling well. Larry has diarrhea and is puking with a low grade temperature. So I'll just sit around and watch KU and KSU play basketball today (hopefully both will win and move on) and wait to see if I get sick too. I'll also be defrosting the refrigerator & freezer. We still have two things we want to get done before we leave the area so I hope we're both healthy by tomorrow.
