March 5: Spring Break

For those of you that have spring fever, here are two of many pictures I took yesterday. This pointsettia is about 4 to 5 ft tall and just gorgeous. And that's a Norfolk Pine in the back ground. You know, like those pines we all grow in pots inside. I've seen these down here as tall as any tree. And back in Hatch Park in Corpus Christi, there was a pointsettia that was as tall as the end of one of the mobile homes in the park.

Larry went out and sailed the little boat again yesterday. Slightly better winds but still pretty calm. The boat in the background is a sightseeing/bird watching cruise that we will try to get out on soon. One guy came down to the dock where we launched because he said he'd seen it on the web cam. If you go to chimneypark.com, you can click on the web cam (belongs to the Border Patrol) and see the river and our weather conditons at any time.

And, yes, today we got to South Padre Island for Spring Break. You can see the odd man out in the first picture, Larry with shorts and shirt. We got a free 80 Energy drink - nothing like a lot of sugar and caffeine to bolster your day on the beach. Walked the length of the beach to the Full Throttle Stage where there was a dance contest - pretty boring to me. Took that last picture just for all you guys. Went to the Geico tent and got a free koozie, frisbie and sun visor - all with the logo of the cave man. I would have preferred the gecko. Had to buy a beer - couldn't find any of that for free. The kids all seemed to be having a great time and were very friendly. Some came up to us just to say hi, how are you, where are you from. One girl, as she was walking past us, slowed down and walked along with us, shook our hand, introduced herself and said she was from Texas A&M. One boy came and sat with us and visited for awhile. We had been watching the stage show and his unique frisbie game. He was from Iowa and a KU fan. Not sure what school he went to.

Before we even got to the beach, Larry found a kite shop and bought a new one. This one will fly every direction and does spins - has 4 strings. I bought a parrot with a margarita in his hand and a sign that says "It's 5:00 somewhere!" and it's tail feathers twirl in the wind.

With diesel at $3.79 down here, we'll probably be sticking closer to home for a while. I have found some geo's that are at a bicycle/hiking park about a mile from here. May be all we do with geo's for the next two weeks. Gotta save gas money so we can still go to Mexico.

It may say anonymous, but it's really DarthCruzr. Just can't keep track of my pswd...I remember the UID okay...old age. Really enjoy the blog and especially the pictures. Sounds like ya'll are really enjoying the life down there and I/we are really happy for you. The pictures are fantastic especially in light of the fact that they're all done with a $50 camera. (yeah..right!). Gas prices aren't any better up. Today 87 octane is $3.17! I have a doctor appointment in the morning and then we leave for Claremore. John and Sharon are going too. Missed last Sunday..my bad!! Like I said before NE, OK, & TX are not good from here. I haven't had a chance to put my 20M dipole back up, but it's in the works.

Later guys...God bless and hope to see you guys soon,

Henry & Anna

Also, to hold a catfish, slide the backside of your hand along the catfish's belly until you can grip the side fins/barbs with your index finger and middle or ring finger (depending on size of fish) and then jam your thumb next to the lower lip...and Squeeze. They won't go anywhere and they won't gaff you.

Not a problem for me - I've been grabbing cat fish since I was little. Larry is the one that has the problem and the phobia.
