Mar. 10: Financing Retirement

Last night was quite profitable playing Euchre. We all put up a quarter and the winning are divided between the first and second in points and the one who played alone (without their partner) the most. I not only had the high score but also the most loners. Won $3.50 - one gallon of diesel.

Today we attended a Hitchhiker owners luncheon. There were about 30 people there from all over the country. More pizza. Dropped by the car wash and washed the truck. We did that because it was suppose to possibly rain today.

L
arry finally decided to take out the sail boat (so far unnamed) and put her out on her maiden voyage. There was absolutely no wind. We have had gale force winds for weeks and today we couldn't even get up enough of a breeze to move the boat. Came home, settled in and sure enough the front moved thru along with some sprinkles. First the wind with the dust and then the sprinkles to spot the truck.

This is a picture of the Border
Patrol boat coming into the boat dock by our park. They speed up and down the river all the time. They came thru just as Larry had sat the boat down into the water. When the waves from their boat hit the little sailboat boat, she just rolled over them with no problem.

Instead of going up to Bingo tonight and trying to pay for a couple more gallons of gas, we decided to go fishing. We're back to fishing for the kind of fish we do in Kansas. In this case, just plain old cat fish. The wind was still blowing but the park and the covered dock made our area of fishing pretty protected. Orion was straight overhead and I watched an owl fly over head from the Mexico side of the river. Quite a few bites and a couple of turtles trying for good worms, but Larry finally hooked one. Don't know what kind of cat fish it was but it was nice. About 14" long and maybe 1 1/2 or 2 lbs. I made him release it because I didn't want to mess with just one (assuming we wouldn't catch any more in the evening). Larry got stuck one time in his youth by a cat fish so he's not real comfortable with them. Plus they told us that some of the cat fish down here can really be bad if you get stuck. I had to take it off the hook and hand it to him to hold. Couldn't get him to release it into a good fish pose but I guess you get the idea. That fish must have gone out and told the rest what was happening because we didn't get a single bite after that.
