Feb. 1: Fishing? Not so much!

Larry putting finishing touches on his sail boat this morning.

Well, we tried. Bought 1/4 lb. shrimp (nasty, slimy) and put them on our big ole hooks and threw them out in the water with our big ole sinkers. Larry was much more patient than I was. He just let his sit in the water (like you're suppose to) but after having my bait sucked off twice, I went to plugging. I had a dilemma with the sea gulls however. When we threw out our shrimp, they were right there where the sinker hit the water, diving for our bait. My concern was that I would throw out an artificial lure that would sit on top of the water before I could start reeling to make it go under the water and a sea gull would try to eat it. Fortunately, they just sat on the shore and looked at it and me like I was nothing. Amazing how they could tell the difference. Then, because we weren't moving much, a great blue heron came and sat beside us - some distance away - but still closer than I've ever been to one. He did move somewhat closer as time passed. I finally threw him some shrimp (the sea gulls didn't seem to want to challenge him for the food). He was very hesitant but finally moved in to eat it. As we were leaving, Larry found some more bread in the truck and moved out in the parking lot to feed again. All he did was hold up his hand and he was swamped. I stayed in the truck.

We ate a late lunch/early supper at Whataburger. Not just any hamburger joint. This one was the Whataburger By The Bay. A two story building and we ate upstairs with a nice view of the shore, piers and the bay area.
