June 17: Memphis, TN
After hosing down the trailer to remove all the live Mayflies and all their carcases, we arrived here in Memphis, at the T.O. Fuller State Park, yesterday afternoon. It is another beautiful area. We are reserv
ing these sites, or taking pot luck in some cases, site unseen. To always get a really great spot is very fortunate. This is the first one that is not by water. We're a short distance from the Mississippi River but we can't see it. Definitely not close enough or low enough to worry about the river coming up because of the upriver flooding. We've traded the Mayflies for house flies. We've killed about a dozen a night so far.
Our first night in Memphis and we went straight to a Pizza Hut for supper on Elvis Presley Blvd. Found Graceland and will be going there tomorrow. We then drove around Memphis to see the downtown area and the river. We'll be doing Beale St. sometime this week too.
Today, we looked up a childhood friend of Larry's, Fred Burton. They grew up together in west Wichita. Fred went on to WSU and now a professor of art at the Memphis College of Art. He took us to a local sandwich cafe called Huey's. There was lots of catching up to do and remembering of those good ole days.
Aside from Graceland and Beale Street, we're going to get to Tunica, MS casinos and the new Paula Deen Buffet at Harrah's and a good BBQ here in Memphis that Fred recommended. Larry is going to be looking for a lake to put the jet ski on.

Tell Fred I said HI, and why didn't you get a hubcap ?? Don is suppose to be getting out of the hospital as soon as they can find a place for him, still trying to work out a deal with Broadway. Talk at you later.
