July 4th

King's Holly Haven RV Park is our current home as of yesterday. It sits at the bottom of some hills on the west side of Pigeon Forge. The drive from the town north of here, Sevierville, and the drive thru Pigeon Forge to the #3 stop light took forever. This isn't the quaint little mountain town of Dolly Pardon's childhood. The area has become very similar to Branson only without all the routes going around the city. The place is big on miniture golf, go-carts, arcades and theaters. Great for family vacations.

Today, we got on the trolley (on our route it was a short bus) and went to Patriot Park for their 4th ce
lebration. We left about 2:30 thinking that would be long enough if we stayed thru the fireworks. Then decided that getting on the trolley after the fireworks would be really slow. Then when we saw what was available, food and games, we decided maybe we'd stay and listen to the bands. I asked a young person who the bands were going to be and they rattled off a list of people I didn't recognize: the new Menudo (who didn't show up on time), Ace Young (who we did listen to for a short period of time), Metro Station, Good Charlotte and Boys Like Girls. So I rephrased my question to what type of music it was going to be--Modern Rock. The youngin assured me that these bands were well known and in the top 40. By then Larry and I knew we'd be back to camp soon enough to swim. Checking out all the food booths, Larry decided on a philly sandwich and I got a hot dog. He then got in line for some McAllister's sweet tea. The fire department showed up to spray down the audience that had been sitting there all morning and afternoon in the sun. Behind Larry are most of the food booths.

We eventually roamed over to another little shopping area close to the park and found a music
store. Henry, I bought Larry a kazoo so he'll be ready for your band. Found an ice cream store - note photo. Larry did end up throwing away about 1/3 of that sundae. I just got a single dip of praline pecan. Then went on to find a candy store - not a great place if over weight.

Got home around 6 and went to the pool. Walked the camp ground and sat to watch some of the fire works up in the hills in front of our camp area--the one showing the log cabin above. I've booked a couple of shows and a couple of fun activities. We're leaving some days free for Dollywood, the Great Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg. AND, a couple of days just sitting around camp, swimming and eating our own food.

We're in Eastern Time Zone now and while moving the clocks forward is no big deal, getting used to the News and Weather being on at 11pm is a whole different issue. We're going to try to catch the Fox news that comes on at 10:00. Now we have to wait until 11:30 pm to watch Leno.
