April 4: Rock Box and other stuff

We were just sitting in our yard and in the next drive way appeared these cute little yellow birds. They are Lawrence Goldfinches. We had been sitting for maybe 5 minutes when Larry decided to go fly his kite. You can see the camp ground in the back ground. We were getting sprinkled on when he decided to give it up.

We also found a nature trail and we walked 1/3 of it before heading back to camp - I didn't have my camera. We'll go back with the camera on a prettier day.

We did eat healthy yesterday - we BBQ'd at home.
Larry had country style ribs and I had a hamburger pattie, served with rice and a salad. So, to celebrate (and Larry was yancy because we hadn't moved the truck all day) we drove into town to the DQ for a small blizzard. But we didn't do this until we'd gone for another walk. We're soooo health conscience.

These are photos of the Hangar Hotel and the Airport Diner. Really neat looking places. The red and white checkered tower says "Freedom". We plan on trying to eat at the diner. The photo that shows the airplanes was taken from the edge of our campground. That's how close we are. Several business jets come and go and a 182 did a high speed pass this morning and I'm sure the WW II vets in the area took cover.

Today we ate at the Cotton Mill. A really neat place that not only has an expensive restaurant (except at lunch) but is also a bed and breakfast. I mention this only because I want you that know me, to know what I ate today. For those of you who don't know me, I'm an extremely picky eater. I asked what was on the buffet and it was: Cheese Soup w/tasso
ham, Cornmeal crusted cajun catfish, meatballs with tomato & basil, Herbed tri-colored orzo and corn & zucchini. So, knowing me, you all know that I asked for the menu. No menu--just the buffet. I want you all to know that I actually tried everything and most of it was good. The cheese soup was excellent, the corn & zucchini not so much. Needless to say, I didn't go away stuffed. I still think "try it, you might like it" is a little over rated. Go to www.cottonginlodging.com to see the cute little cottages you can stay in and the dinner menu and you'll know why we're not going back for dinner.

Tonight we went to a program at the RockBox in Fredericksburg. It was a show of rock & roll thru the decades. By the time they got to the Dubey Brothers they had sorta lost us, but the rest of it was great. Women groups of the 60's; disco; Louisiana Hayride music including Johnny Cash & Hank Williams, the Beattles. They ended it with Amazing Grace & Proud To Be An American and had all the vets stand up. Great ending. They do a different show every week. Luckenbach has a hard act to follow.
